Shame


Tuesday, January 17, 2023: This morning I pulled The Devil. What is it that we are bound to that doesn't serve us but we can't help but embrace? When I think of the Devil I think of shame. Don't get me wrong there are things we should be ashamed of: violence, cruelty, hate, racism, intolerance. Unfortunately too many of the things people feel shame for are not the things we should be ashamed of. Culture tells us to be ashamed of things like who and how we love, have consensual sex, and express our genders. Culture tells us we are broken or abnormal and we should feel shame rather than celebrate our diversity. Well, normal sucks. In response I am invoking the “Going Beyond Normal” oracle card.

Sunday, April 20, 2025: Today I pulled the Hermit. For me this is a card of inward reflection. The important thing is look at yourself and reflect on who you are now. This is not who the world expects you to be or who you were yesterday. Friday, February 24, 2023: Today I pulled the Hanged Man. For me this is a card of taking time and consideration of different perspectives. It’s between the powerful cards of Justice and Death in the Major Arcana. I’m invoking the Princess of Swords. I call this the mindfulness card. I read the Page/Princess cards as cards of having a beginner’s mind.
